At least two people have been confirmed dead following a suspected bomb explosion in Munyonyo on Tuesday morning, coinciding with the Martyrs Day celebrations.
The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) described the incident as a foiled terrorist attack, emphasizing heightened security measures.
In an official statement, Chris Magezi, the acting army spokesperson, stated:
"A UPDF counter-terrorism unit intercepted and neutralized two armed terrorists in Munyonyo, an upscale city suburb. This intelligence-led operation ensures security forces remain on high alert to prevent disruptions during Martyrs Day celebrations. We urge the public to stay calm but vigilant and report any suspicious individuals, objects, or activities to security authorities immediately."
Security teams continue monitoring the situation, reinforcing safety measures across the event grounds.
