Watford legend Troy Deeney believes Liam Delap may be skipping a crucial step in his development by choosing Chelsea over Manchester United.

Chelsea is set to confirm the signing of the 22-year-old from Ipswich Town after securing his transfer this summer. Delap has already completed the first phase of his medical with Ipswich.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Deeney expressed his thoughts on Delap’s decision, stating that Manchester United would have been the ideal club for his growth.

"I personally felt Manchester United was the perfect fit for his development," Deeney said.

He added that Delap’s decision to join Chelsea might leave a gap in his progression, particularly given his lack of Premier League play following Ipswich Town’s relegation.

"At United, he would have had to handle big-game experience, which would have been valuable for his career," Deeney noted.
