Grace Nakimera, a renowned Ugandan singer celebrated for classics like "Kiva Kuki," "Anfukuula," "Kawonawo," "Nalo," and "Onyambanga Mukama," believes that the music from her era—over a decade ago—is far more beautiful than the tunes being produced today. She is convinced that the songs of her time possessed a raw authenticity and depth that modern music lacks.
In an interview with local YouTuber Shalom Kaweesi, Grace observed that contemporary songs tend to be quickly forgotten, while melodies from ten years ago continue to resonate with people. She pointed out that the recent revival of legendary artists such as Iryn Namubiru on major stages is a clear indication that music fans have come to recognize the enduring value of the older generation’s work compared to that of today’s rising artists.
Grace expressed, "We had beautiful music. Our music was real. Today, something is missing." She explained that this is why distinguished artists like Kabuye Semboga, Sophie Nantongo, Iryn Namubiru, and others have found their way back into the spotlight. Although a handful of new talents are making their mark, she maintains that the music from the past has a timeless quality that newer releases simply do not match.
She concluded by emphasizing that this music is eternal—it never fades away. Despite the release of songs just three months ago that many might quickly forget, there remains a lasting memory of the classics from a decade past.
