Uganda Waragi, the country’s iconic heritage gin, has reaffirmed its commitment to the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) by renewing its sponsorship for the four-day event at Speke Resort Munyonyo Convention Centre. This marks the second consecutive year of support for the prestigious tourism gathering, scheduled to run from May 20th to 24th.
Officials highlight that this partnership, deeply rooted in cultural celebration, aligns with Uganda Waragi’s brand ethos and presents a strategic opportunity to elevate locally made products as a cultural cornerstone on a global scale.
The expo, culminating in a grand festival on May 24th, is hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB). Under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” the event aims to position Uganda as a leader in eco-conscious development across Africa.
Now in its ninth edition, POATE stands as Uganda’s premier tourism event.
During the opening ceremony, Hillary Baguma, Brand Manager for Mainstream Spirits at Uganda Breweries, emphasized Uganda Waragi’s legacy. “For 60 years, Uganda Waragi has symbolized Ugandan heritage and exceptional craftsmanship. Our partnership with POATE reflects our dedication to fostering cultural exchange and creating potential export markets for Uganda Waragi,” he stated.
Echoing Baguma’s sentiments, Minister for Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, Hon. Tom Butime, underscored POATE’s significance. “This is more than just an event—it is Uganda’s flagship tourism marketing platform, connecting local businesses with international buyers, investors, and media. Over the years, it has evolved into a regional brand, solidifying Uganda’s status as a top tourism destination in Africa.”
POATE 2025 serves as a dynamic multi-stakeholder platform, offering visibility and value to a diverse range of participants, including international and regional hosted buyers, tour operators, destination management companies, luxury travel agents, and travel designers seeking authentic Ugandan experiences. Additionally, it provides Ugandan and East African businesses with an opportunity to showcase their products, forge new partnerships, and expand their market reach.
