Veterans have cautioned opposition political figures against any attempts at armed rebellion, affirming their commitment to safeguarding the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s achievements, which they credit for driving Uganda’s transformation across multiple sectors.
Speaking on behalf of the Luwero Veterans Association, Kiggundu Kabandwa emphasized that the NRM’s liberation struggle laid the groundwork for Uganda’s democratic progress. The association’s chairperson, Hajji Edirisa Sseddunga, reiterated that political transitions should only occur through established democratic processes.
“We cannot risk Uganda’s peace by allowing ideologically misguided groups to reverse the hard-won gains,” the statement warned. The veterans also commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his steadfast leadership in national security, praising the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) as one of the region’s most disciplined armies.
Additionally, they highlighted the historical importance of the Lyantonde–Kabula corridor, a key strategic point in the NRM’s liberation efforts.
Meanwhile, Luwero Triangle Minister Alice Kaboyo announced expanded government initiatives to improve veterans’ livelihoods through socioeconomic programs.
During the national celebrations in Kaliiro Town Council, Lyantonde District, Minister Kaboyo revealed that over 300 income-generating projects are being supported under a specialized government program for veterans’ households.
She also detailed progress on a mass housing initiative aimed at enhancing the welfare and dignity of those who played a pivotal role in Uganda’s liberation struggle.
The 2025 National Heroes Day Celebrations are being held under the theme “The Legacy and Ideals of Our Heroes: A Memorable Inspiration.”
