Brigadier General Christopher Sserunjogi Damulira, head of Crime Intelligence in the Uganda Police Force, has been promoted to the rank of Major General in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

This promotion was reportedly made by President Yoweri Museveni in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief.

Damulira assumed leadership of the Crime Intelligence Directorate in 2019, during a time of heightened crime and security concerns in Kampala and surrounding regions. Since then, he has been widely regarded as one of Uganda’s foremost intelligence professionals.

His tenure has seen the strengthening of internal intelligence systems through high-level operations, strategic surveillance, and coordinated efforts across security agencies—contributing to the stabilization of previously volatile areas.

Among his most prominent accomplishments is the dismantling of Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) sleeper cells involved in serious crimes, including the attempted assassination of General Edward Katumba Wamala in 2021 and the 2017 killing of Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

Under his leadership, the Crime Intelligence Directorate has emerged as a cornerstone of Uganda’s national security infrastructure.

In recognition of his exceptional service, Damulira was awarded the Exemplary Order of Service (Class II) medal—one of the highest honours in the Uganda Police—during the country’s 61st Independence Day celebrations on 9 October 2023.
