Manchester United is set to suffer a financial setback of £80 million following a disappointing Premier League season and their absence from European competition next year.
The Red Devils had the opportunity to secure a £70 million payout had they qualified for the Champions League by winning the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur. However, Ruben Amorim’s squad fell short, losing 1-0 in Bilbao to their league rivals, with Brennan Johnson scoring the decisive first-half goal.
As a result, United will not participate in any European tournaments next season, further impacting their revenue streams. This season, the club earned £30 million in UEFA TV money from the Europa League, a sum they will miss out on next year.
Additionally, matchday earnings are expected to decline by approximately £20 million, with an estimated five fewer home games at Old Trafford. United will also face a £10 million penalty under their new contract with kit manufacturer Adidas for the 2025-26 season due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Finishing 16th in the Premier League further compounds their financial woes, as the club will receive around £22.4 million less in prize and TV money compared to last season, when they placed eighth.
